This month’s top two transcripts highlight very different aspects of KIN service.
Transcripts
Transcripts of the Month - March 2012
Erica was selected for best practices in "helping a nontraditional student navigate a complicated search, taking a great deal of time and patience to guide the patron through the resources and search strategies, gave encouragement and sought to provide follow-up by sending articles. Erica showed professionalism, kindness and patience that is still evident in a written transcript after the fact. She spent nearly an hour with the patron who thanked Erica in the comments and rated the call as "Excellent."
Transcripts of the Month - February 2012
In the nonstop tsunami of global information, librarians provide us with floaties and teach us to swim.” (Linton Weeks, Washington Post)
Sometimes, it's less about the information and more about the actual nuts-and-bolts of sifting through the information & putting it all together in a presentable form.
KIN24x7 Transcript Retention Update
Transcripts now available through the transcript search feature will be retained on a rolling 12-month basis to allow access to transcripts as long as possible without jeopardizing the efficiency of the search.
Transcripts back to January 2011 are still available as of March 6, 2012. The retention policy will be put into place on Friday, March 9, 2012, at which time transcripts from January, February, and March 2011 will be deleted.
Looking for a transcript?
Are you looking for a particular transcript but don't want to wade through all of the sessions on a particular day? Not a problem. As long as you can remember the question (or even some of text of the session) you can search for that transcript in the KIN24x7 provider site. Just put the term(s) in the search field (it's located on the upper right) and click the search button. Obviously the more details you can provide will help you to narrow your search.
KnowItNow24x7 January 2012 Transcript of the Month
This month's featured transcript comes to us from the fine folks staffing the OhioLINK queue. The librarian, Pete, has done a wonderful job of sussing out, through traditional reference interview techniques, what it is the patron really needs. He explains differences between journal articles and books in terms of depth of information and subject coverage and ultimately gets the patron what they need. Well done, Pete! Our kudos to you.
KnowItNow24x7 December 2011 Transcripts of the Month
Excellent customer service need not take a holiday as shown by December’s transcripts. It was difficult to whittle it down to just one, so two very different types of questions are featured. The first is from a younger student searching for good books to read. The second is a post-secondary student who has a very challenging question. Both students had specific needs that the librarians had to consider and they were very conscientious about providing what each student needed.
KnowItNow24x7 November 2011 Transcripts of the Month
It's time once again to recognize the transcripts of the month! Two QuACK members independently chose two different transcripts from Ozzie@Sinclair (Sinclair Community College), so this month we highlight one of her transcripts and include the other within the Honorable Mentions.

Transcript Searching Instructions

The image above shows the default serach option for transcripts being displayed on the KnowItNow24x7 Provider. The default display shows most recent transcripts at the top. Transcripts are displayed by question (e.g., "I have to copy and paste a article put when I click on find it I can not copy it please help"); however, transcripts can now be searched using the boxes displayed at the top of the screen.
