A question concerning the subject queue consolidation has come up concerning where librarians can find information about subjects with which they are not familiar. Specifically, one librarian was curious if the sites featured in the Online Resources columns in the monthly newsletters were available elsewhere on the Provider site because "I have a feeling I might be looking for those after the consolidation happens."

First, this librarian's initiative to begin thinking about how to expand their expertise is commendable. This is the mark of a professional commitment to librarianship and customer service.

Next, this provides the opportunity to expand on the previous announcement's inclusion of "initiating projects in which Ohio's librarians can pool their expertise and share their experience with others." There are a number of online resources which librarians can use to answer questions; however, to specifically facilitate the work of KIN24x7 librarians, a new section of the Provider site will be created to include not only URLs but also in-depth research guides including questions to ask, specific statewide databases to consider, etc. The plan is to have these be collaborative in nature, allowing librarians across the state to contribute their knowledge and share it with colleagues.

More details will be forthcoming between now and June 1. If you have any questions in the meantime, feel free to post a comment to the Provider site or email support@knowitnow.org.
